ROYAL FAMILIES



We have just completed a unit which included FAMILY vocabulary.  Below is an activity to practice the vocabulary that we learnt in class.

You have to read about the Spanish, Morrocan or British royal family.


1. Divide yourselves into small groups.

2. Choose a royal family (or your teacher will choose one for you).

3. Go online and read about your royal family.

4. Complete the genealogical tree about your royal family.

5. Talk to your classmates about your royal family.

THE BRITISH ROYAL FAMILY


Queen Elizabeth II is the queen of the United Kingdom.  Her parents were King George VI and Elizabeth the Duchess of York.   She had one sister, Princess Margaret, who died in 2002.

Queen Elizabeth II is married to Prince Philip.  They have four children, one daughter and three sons.  The children are, Prince Charles, Princess Anne, Prince Andrew and Prince Edward.

Prince Charles is the eldest child and the heir to the throne.  He was married to Princess Diana.  They divorced in 1996.  They had two sons, Prince William who is second in line to the throne, and Prince Henry.  Prince Charles married Camilla Parker Bowles in 2005.
Princess Anne is the queen’s second child.  She was married to Mark Phillips but they divorced in 1992.  They have two children, Peter and Zara. 

Prince Andrew is the queen’s third child.  He was married to Sarah Ferguson but they divorced in 1996.  They have two daughters, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie.
The queen’s youngest child is Prince Edward.  He married Sophie Rhys-Jones in 1999.  They have two children, Louise and James.


In addition to the queen’s eight grandchildren, she also has great-grandchildren.
Prince Charles’ son, Prince William married Catherine Middleton in 2011.  They have two children, Prince George and Princess Charlotte.  Prince George is third in line to the throne. Prince William’s brother is Prince Harry.  He isn’t married.


The queen has another great-grandchild, Mia Tindall. She is Zara’s daughter and Princess Anne’s granddaughter.

THE MORROCAN ROYAL FAMILY



Mohammed VI is the king of Morocco.  His father was King Hassan II who was king until he died in 1999. 

King Hassan II was the eldest son of Mohammed V and Lalla Abla bint Tahar.   He had three sisters and one brother.  They are, Lalla Aicha, Lalla Malika, Moulay Abdallah and Lalla Nuzha.

King Mohammed's mother is Princess Lalla Latifa Amahzoune.  She is still alive.

King Mohammed VI married Princess Lalla Salma in Rabat in 2002. They have two children, Prince Moulay Hassan, who is heir to the throne, and Princess Lalla Khadija.


The king has got three sisters and one brother. They are Princess Lalla Meryem, Princess Lalla Asma, Princess Lalla Hasna and Prince Moulay Rachid.

Princess Lalla Meryem is the eldest child.  She was married to Fuad Filali but they divorced in 1999.  They have a daughter called Sharifa and a son called Moulay.

Princess Lalla Asma is married to Khalid Bouchentouf and they have two children, Moulay Yazid Bouchentouf and Lalla Nuhaila Bouchentouf.

Princess Lalla Hasna is King Mohammed's youngest sister.  She is married to Dr. Khalid Benharbit.  They've got two daughters, Lalla Oumaima Benharbit and Lalla Oulaya Benharbit.

Prince Moulay Rachid is the king's brother and is second in line to the throne.  He married Oum Kalthum Boufarès in 2014.  They've got one son called Ahmed.

THE SPANISH ROYAL FAMILY



Felipe VI is the king of Spain.  His parents are King Juan Carlos, who was king until 2014 when he abdicated, and Queen Sofia.   He has two sisters, Infanta Elena and Infanta Cristina.

King Felipe VI is married to Queen Letizia who was a journalist before she married the king.  They have two daughters, Princess Leonor and Infanta Sofia.  Princess Leonor is the eldest child and the first in line to the throne. 


Infanta Elena was married to Jaime de Maricharlar but they divorced in 2010.  They have two children, Felipe and Victoria.

Infanta Cristina is married to Iñaki Urdangarín.  They have four children, Juan, Pablo, Miguel and Irene.

King Felipe’s grandfather was Infante Juan, Count of Barcelona.  He was heir to the throne but was never king.  Infante Juan married Princess María Mercedes in Rome in 1935. They had four children, Infanta Pilar, Juan Carlos, Infanta Margarita and Infante Alfonso who died in a gun accident.
