What is a Nativity Scene?
A nativity
scene shows the nativity or
birth of Jesus Typically, the scene includes the Holy Family
(Baby Jesus, Mary and Joseph), angels, the Magi (the Three Wise Men or Three
Kings - Balthasar of Arabia, Melchior of Persia, and Gaspar of
India), the ox and the ass, and shepherds.
People think that St. Francis of Assisi created the first nativity scene in
1223 near Greccio, Italy. It was very
popular and people in different places copied it.
